FAQ
Vancouver Roofing: straight answers, up front
The questions BC homeowners ask us first, each answered in the first sentence.
The company
Who is Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.?
The certified Interlock® roofing contractor for British Columbia: a Canadian owned and operated BC company founded July 6, 1983, headquartered at 9969 River Way in Delta. We install the Interlock® Lifetime Roofing System, which is made in Canada by Interlock Roofing Ltd. at the same Delta address. BBB Accredited (A+) and Baeumler Approved.
Is the roof really made in Canada?
Yes. Interlock® panels are manufactured by Interlock Roofing Ltd. in Delta, BC, and installed by us, a BC company. The finished roof is made in BC and installed in BC; it never crosses a border on its way to your home.
Where we work
Are you a Vancouver roofing company or a metal roofing company?
A Vancouver roofing contractor, that installs one roofing system: the Interlock® aluminum roof, made in Canada in Delta. We replace asphalt, cedar and tile roofs on Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond and Tri-Cities homes with it. We don't install asphalt shingles, so if you're shopping for the lowest price on a roof you'll replace again, we're not the right call. If you want the last roof the house needs, we are.
Which communities does this site cover?
Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore, Belcarra, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Surrey, Delta, Langley and White Rock are at surreyroofing.com, and North and West Vancouver at northvancouverroofing.com. Same company, same crews and warranty.
Vancouver roofing
How long have you been installing roofs in Vancouver?
Our job book records Interlock® roofs in Metro Vancouver since 1984, when the first went on in Port Coquitlam. There are 534 completed roofs in Metro Vancouver on the books, 140 of them in Vancouver itself.
Which roof profile do Vancouver homeowners choose most?
Slate. The Vancouver roofs in our job book are Slate (78), Standing Seam (17), Mediterranean Tile (12), Shake (11). The most common colours are Black, Charcoal Grey, Deep Charcoal.
Where else near Vancouver have you installed roofs?
Completed Interlock® roofs in our job book: Burnaby 105; Richmond 68; Coquitlam 76. Each community with three or more has its own page on this site.
Do you do roof repairs or asphalt shingles in Vancouver?
No. We install one roofing system, the Interlock® aluminum roof, and we replace asphalt, cedar and tile roofs with it. If your roof needs a patch, we're not the right call. If it needs replacing, we are.
Where is your office?
9969 River Way, Delta, BC, the same address as the Interlock plant that makes the panels. Estimates in Metro Vancouver are by appointment; call (604) 210-3850.
The product
What profiles can I choose from?
Cedar Shingle, Shake, Slate, Mediterranean Tile, Standing Seam and Solid Copper. Every profile needs a minimum 3/12 roof slope. We bring samples and colours to the visit.
What does the warranty cover?
The manufacturer's Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty covers the material and its finish for as long as the original purchaser owns the home. It transfers once, to the next owner. Workmanship is covered separately by us, in writing, in your contract. Read the full terms before you sign.
How does it handle BC wind and rain?
Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides with the fasteners concealed, and wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) when installed to manufacturer specification. Aluminum absorbs no water and cannot rot, so months of coastal rain do not soften it. Valleys and gutters still collect debris, and we will tell you what to clear and how often.
Is it fire rated for wildfire areas?
Class A Fire Rated Available as a complete assembly. Under ASTM E108 a fire classification belongs to the assembly, not the panel; on our roofs Class A is achieved with two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood. If your home is in a wildland-urban interface area, ask us to walk the gutters, vents and roof edges with you too.
Is it heavy? Will my framing need work?
No. Interlock panels weigh roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre depending on profile, a fraction of concrete tile, which leaves the structure's capacity for snow load. We check the deck and framing at the visit and put anything that needs attention in the written quote.
